Why Health & Wellbeing?

Since 1571, people have flocked to Harrogate because of its water and spa experience. After Queen Elizabeth I’s personal physician recommended Harrogate’s waters for their medicinal properties, wealthy visitors travelled from far and wide to ‘take the waters’. Today Harrogate district continues to welcome visitors seeking a health and wellbeing experience.Visitors come to relax, enjoy the fantastic quality of life and healthy ambiance.

A choice of modern luxury spas complement the Victorian spa heritage, and spectacular gardens and the breath-taking countryside across the district provide fresh air and places to walk and cycle. Today, with an ever increasing focus on looking after ourselves and each other, the Harrogate district is uniquely placed to elevate its historical roots and position the district as a first choice destination that will ‘make you feel better.’

Target market

The campaign, which is set to launch this spring, will target two key, high-spending markets; country-loving traditionalists and free and easy mini-breakers. Both these audiences are known to travel for experiences such as those available within the Harrogate district.  They also have a larger disposable income as they are likely not yet to have had children or have children who are financially independent.

To encourage overnight stays and short breaks the geographic target areas will be areas within a 1.5/2hr travel time with a focus on the North East and Yorkshire as well as the South East to maximise on the direct LNER train route from London Kings Cross.

Tactics

The themes of the campaign will range from showcasing our rich spa heritage, luxury spa experiences, gardens and the great outdoors, food and drink, wellness retreats and everything in between that makes a visitor feel good.

The campaign will focus on targeted digital activity alongside a mix of PR, influencer engagement, print, display advertising and a social media campaign.
